SEED Wayne’s mission is to build sustainable food systems on campus and in Detroit communities. Numerous partners, including the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, have agreed to help with the project.
Following background work completed by Kami Pothukuchi, associate professor, Department of Geography and Urban Planning, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, SEED Wayne was launched in May. The program embraces core campus functions in teaching, research, operations and engagement. A service-learning project in Cities and Food, a course taught by Pothukuchi, was essential to SEED Wayne's inception.
Campus partners include Student Environmental Action Leaders (SEAL), Wayne State Students of Urban Planning (WSSUP), Dean of Students, CommunityEngagement@Wayne, Honors College and other academic units. Nabelah Ghareeb, assistant vice president for Business Affairs and Auxiliary Operations, is closely involved in the program.
