The Board of Governors on June 18 approved renovations of the Community Arts Auditorium. The proposed upgrades will enable the facility to present bigger and better events including premiere musical performances, dance recitals, feature films and lectures.

The auditorium is inside the Community Arts Building, which was constructed in 1958 with minor renovations to the auditorium completed in 1985. With a seating capacity of 568, the auditorium has been in higher demand recently due to speaking events and university auxiliary functions.

Improvements
When the dust clears, the project will provide the following:

  • ADA-compliant seating with new upholstery
  • new carpeting and stage flooring
  • improved acoustics
  • refurbished woodwork
  • freshly painted walls and ceilings
  • improved ticket booth and concession stand
  • state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment
  • new, flexible theatrical lighting
  • new digital projection equipment, screen and booth
  • upgraded electrical wiring
  • renovations of back stage area, dressing rooms and ADA-compliant restrooms

The estimated completion date of the renovations, which will cost $1.4 million, is Sept. 12.
