The Wayne State University Board of Governors (BOG) has announced that Jay Noren, MD, will be on campus on May 12 and 13 as the finalist in the university's search for its new president. Dr. Noren will meet with interested groups and individuals throughout the university as well as members of the broader community.
Dr. Noren has had a long and distinguished career in higher education, most recently as founding dean of the newly created College of Public Health at the University of Nebraska. He previously served as provost and chief academic officer, dean of the Graduate College and principal deputy to the president at Nebraska, where Dr. Noren oversaw the institution’s academic mission on four campuses statewide as well as its major health sciences campus in Omaha.
Dr. Noren holds an MD from the University of Minnesota and a master’s in Public Health from Harvard University. In addition to his leadership and administrative experience, he has an extensive background in health sciences administration and policy. An open forum for the campus community will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the Community Arts Auditorium. It will be followed from 5 to 6:30 p.m. by a reception in the McGregor Memorial Conference Center. The BOG encourages your participation at these two events. The BOG will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, May 14, at 8:30 a.m. to formally consider Dr. Noren’s candidacy.
