Volunteer today to spruce up Midtown, May 17

Midtown could use a good, spring cleaning. A big problem in Detroit is litter and graffiti, and thousands of volunteers are being recruited to be a part of the solution.

While the Motor City Makeover will take place during the next three weekends, the Midtown cleanup, which includes Wayne State and adjacent areas, is planned for Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteer to show pride in your community.

Last year's success
Last year, in partnership with the University Cultural Center Association (UCCA), the university hosted the Motor City Makeover in Midtown. About 300 volunteers, including more than 150 from WSU, cleaned the area and collected 350 bags of trash.  Last year’s teams included members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams and men’s football team as well as other athletic teams. Many volunteers participated from Wayne State's academic and non-academic departments.

Sign up, bring friends, family
This year, volunteers will meet at the Welcome Center to obtain work assignments, obtain clean-up tools and enjoy an after-work lunch and neighborhood get-together.  T-shirts will be distributed. Family members and friends are also invited.

Individuals, families, university departments and divisions, athletic teams and student groups are encouraged to sign-up in advance by clicking here. Groups will need to provide the name of each volunteer.
